Event Details

The Spring Season’s MUTD series continues with a program entitled Legends, starting with Frederick Chopin’s colorful Scherzo No. 4, a colorful piece composed with Polish flair, and performed brilliantly by Polish pianist, Magdalena Nikolajuk. Next up is the Notturno movement from Borodin’s beautiful String Quartet No. 2, a piece that captures the nighttime sky and the story of the Russian stars above, performed by a string quartet of Schwob undergraduates. This will be followed by Kari Cruver Medina’s Selkies, performed by our Schwob Flute Ensemble. This work describes mythological shape-shifters, primarily from Scottish and Irish folklore, who were able to transform from seals to humans by shedding their seal skins – all in sound! The program concludes with a raucous version of Tico Tico non fuba, a classic Brazilian song, performed in an arrangement by our Schwob musicians, clarinetist Jesus Moreno and bassist Albert Mora. This piece musically tells the story of a bird that gets covered in cornmeal, as it tries to shake all of the crumbs off. It is an extremely fun work, full of humor, and music that requires fast fingers to play!! Travis Dodd will once again join us to provide creative designs for this dynamic program!

Reception at 5 pm with wine and cheese, and 45-minute concert at 5:37pm!
