Our next program, the Science of Shared Space features works that are atmospheric and beautiful, starting with members of the award winning Schwob Percussion Ensemble performing two pieces: the first is Isaac Shanklar’s haunting Blindness, played on vibraphones with bows, and which also has an electronic component; this is followed by Ivan Trevino’s Shared Space, a groove work that again features vibraphone with drumset-like accompaniment. Our next work features the excellent Schwob Viola Ensemble performing Kenneth Harding’s Concertante for Five Violas; this is music that moves through the space with a lovely and intimate shared sense of breath, vibrato, and motion. The final work on this program will be presented by terrific graduate Schwob pianist Caleb Ferreira, who will perform Prokofiev’s wild final two movements of his Sonata No. 9 in C major, a roller coaster of a work that will fill the space with the beautiful sounds of the Yamaha Disklavier, our world class piano.
