MUTD’s next program is titled Voices of Ascension, and it will be incredibly uplifting both aurally and visually. It begins with Schubert’s Impromptu No. 1, played exquisitely by Schwob faculty member Dr. Allen Yueh. This work features a dialog between the treble and bass material that is incredibly vocal in nature and musically rich. It is followed by an excellent Schwob Jazz Combo playing/singing an arrangement of Georgia on My Mind, showcasing the beauty of what makes our state so very special. Next is a set presented in surround sound by the acclaimed Schwob Singers, under the direction of Dr. David Hahn. They will sing beautiful, lifting works including Fritchel’s Qui Sedes, McDowell’s O Oriens, and Daley’s Grandmother Moon. Each piece is a jewel in the vocal repertoire. The final performance on this program will feature Frederick Chopin’s Ballade No. 3 in A-flat Major, played by Polish pianist Justyna Buranska, a terrific artist who has cultural insight into one of this composer’s most beautiful pieces. Marjorie Bordner will create beautiful designs for this wonderful program!
